Conjuring petrol/gasoline out of thin air: do Air Fuel Synthesis have the answer to our looming energy crisis?

The partner for integrated energy projectsScientists in the UK have recently announced that they have produced five litres of gasoline from water vapour and carbon dioxide. Sounds too goo to be true but while the project is still in its developmental stage Peter Harrison, of Air Fuel Synthesis, acknowledges that we may be witnessing a potential game-changer in terms of how we source transport fuels into the future. Harrison plans to have a refinery-scale operation in place in the UK within the 15 years. The potential impact this new technology will have on the economies of countries that traditionally dependent on importing the vast bulk of their liquid energy from abroad (such as Ireland) is mind boggling.

Media articles on this development can be accessed here and here.
