Irish Times: What we can learn from Ireland’s best place

Kathy Sheridan, writing about the County Mayo town of Westport, winner of the ‘The Irish Times’ as the Best Place to Live in Ireland, suggests its success is “a product of careful planning, an innovative approach to voluntary work, and a triumph of public spiritedness”. While acknowledging that it is by no means perfect, Sheridan points to some of the reasons why it managed to avoid some of the worst developer-led excesses brought by the now long-dead economic boom.
