Is Australia really the ‘lucky country’? Tapan Sarker thinks so…

R7vhzt3v-1338440988Writing for The Conversation Tapan Sarker asks its readers to choose their Australian vision: “an independent economic leader, or a hole in the ground”? His article suggests that the economic prosperity currently experienced in Australia has ensured its citizens have the highest median income in the world, and are second only to Switzerland for having the highest average wealth. This wealth, though in no small measure has been brought about by the current resources boom, Sarker argues that this wealth largely pre-dates it.

His article, and reader’s responses to it, can be read in full here.
